Beck Brachman, PhD, is a neuroscientist and Cofounder & CEO of IMPRINT (a nonprofit Focused Research Organization). IMPRINT is building forensic immunology tools to identify the hidden causes of and cures for chronic disease. Beck is best known for her pioneering work establishing the field of preventative psychopharmacology: she discovered alexigents, the first drugs that enhance stress resilience and may prevent PTSD and depression, and demonstrated that immune cells carry a memory of psychological stress. She has also worked on novel social finance instruments to incentivize public good, particularly for high-impact scientific research and generic drug repurposing. Beck obtained her PhD in Neuroscience from Columbia University and was a research fellow at the NIH. She was a 2024 SpecTech BRAINS Fellow, 2022 Convergent Research Innovation Fellow, 2019 Cornell Tech Runway Fellow, 2017 TED Fellow, and 2017 NYCEDC Entrepreneurship Lab Fellow. Her research has been featured in numerous media outlets, including The Atlantic, WIRED, Business Insider, and described by NPR as a "moonshot project that is very much needed in the mental health arena."
