I am passionate about film, storytelling, community organizing, and the internet as a powerful social space for the disabled; the intersections of health and the environment, health and women's rights, and health and human rights, and how the medical system can do better. // Five years ago, TED Fellow Jennifer Brea became progressively ill with myalgic encephalomyelitis, commonly known as chronic fatigue syndrome, a debilitating illness that severely impairs normal activities and on bad days makes even the rustling of bed sheets unbearable. Brave is a data driven company helping companies across Africa to hire the best talent for their product teams. At Brave, she is the VP of Growth and Success. Jessica is a dynamic speaker and has featured on global platforms talking about her work in technology and entrepreneurship. She has spoken at SWSX in 2014 and 2015. She has also given guest lectures at Harvard in 2017 and 2018. She is a Bass Guitarist and has played for various afro-fusion and rock bands in Nairobi. I stumbled upon the concept of Intentional Serendipity from a TEDx Talk by Corey Ford. I embraced this paradigm fully and I believe that the connections that you make during your life time have an intent in the near future and in the long term. All we have to do is be mindful of the people around us and what our purpose is! My purpose was clear towards the end of 2015. However, this required me to step out of my comfort zone and embark on a journey of self-discovery - I went to San Francisco for the first time in August 2015 for the TED fellow retreat, met Ibanga Umanah, my current co-founder at Brave. We both aligned on values, which was really important for me: and our common ethos was to - “Unleash the best in people” which forms the basis under which Brave was born. Founded by Jess Ladd, a sexual assault survivor herself, Callisto has expanded beyond college campuses to support victims in professional fields such as technology, entertainment, and academia. Their ambition is to create a comprehensive reporting process that prioritizes survivors' needs and empowers them to understand their options.
