Guest lecture on Social Media and Business Communications by Sanjukta Basu (Part 1)

Date: 20th Sep 2011 Venue:ITS, Mohan Nagar, Ghaziabad Topic: Social Media and Business Communications. Part 1 - How much of the brand communications that happens on Traditional Media is retained in our minds? Part 1 - How much of the Brand communications that happen via mainstream traditional media is retained in our minds? As it would turn out from this exercise: - People mostly remember very powerful brand which has a 360 degree communications strategy round the year. Its difficult for a young upcoming brand to be heard. - People remember things they see on TV more easily rather than newspaper ads. Political section of newspapers is often not read by youngsters. - From an advertising communication people remember just the brand name but they don't gather what's the latest with that brand. Only if its a news report they remember more about it. These points are thus incorporated in a social media strategy for a brand. --- This is a part of a series of academic lectures delivered by Samyukta Media founder Sanjukta Basu on Social Media and Communications at various academic Institutions. In the current academic session 2011 to 2012 Sanjukta is engaged in delivering regular guest lectures to the 1st year and 2nd year students of Bachelor and Masters of Mass Communications at International Institute of Mass Media, South Ex and New Media students of APJ School of Mass Communications, Dwarka; As far as we know, these are the first of its kind academic lectures on Social Media and should set the path to design full fledged academic curriculum for this very important means of communication for the students of media, advertising and journalism in India. Guest lecture on Social Media and Business Communications by Sanjukta Basu (Part 2)

Date: 20th Sep 2011 Venue:ITS, Mohan Nagar, Ghaziabad Topic: Social Media and Business Communications Part 2 - Social Media is about the essence of what you communicate, rather than the tools. The commonly used term 'Social Media' in the modern business communications consist of both the tools of communication on social media and the essence of such communication. The various web based tools like website, blogs, social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, Flickr are all tools of social media communication. The essence of the communication lies in being open, social and friendly. When you lose your position of being someone powerful and become part of your audience, be equal to them as one of them, that's when you are doing social communication. Its a digital extension of the traditional word of mouth communication that we did sitting under the banyan tree, "arre pata hai kya hua" --- This video is a part of a series of academic lectures delivered by Samyukta Media founder Sanjukta Basu on Social Media and Communications at various academic Institutions. Biography

Used to be a lawyer, now a struggling social entrepreneur. Always a feminist, writer, photographer & traveler. A passionate story teller. Perpetually broke.

I thought I'd end it abruptly, but why? I am a story teller. Least of all my story must be told here. Although, my story is a book material, and it should be out someday, as soon as I am able to calm down, take a deep breath, focus and write. But till then:

I was born ordinary. Couple of things in the last 10 years changed my life. Somebody invented this thing called Blogging - The power of self publication which could take my voice to the world. I just flipped out and did crazy things with it. The rewards of those craziness came in 2009 in the form of a TED Fellowship.

The guys at TED must be crazy themselves to have encouraged my craziness. I quit my lawyers job to do something where I used social media to prevent the cause of Domestic Violence. Sometime later I got distracted. So I quit again and set about in a mission to take Social Media as a powerful tool of communication to the bottom of the social pyramid.

That's where you met me.

On the side, I write and write. And I click and click.

Do join me in my crazy journey.
